The last year indeed was the breakthrough year for transportation and mobility. Transportation technology had an extraordinary growth and provided many new inventions that have disrupted transportation industry. It is now driven by connectivity services, shared mobility, upgraded feature, and other disruptive transportation technology that will allow automotive industry to increase income by 30% only from new services. In line with that, large automotive companies have already conducted new business approaches. Also, by accepting new tech transportation solutions, customers will ask for more improved products, which will additionally encourage the transportation providers to innovate even more. Thus, for a couple of years, we will have a totally different and high-tech transportation sector that will provide much higher value to the customers.

  • Current and future transportation trends

One of the most important changes in transportation is data connectivity. Companies have realized that by connected among themselves they can achieve much better results. Most of the data today are interconnected, such as booking tickets, taxi taking, boarding trains and the like. In addition, car companies implement new transportation technology that allows them to collect new data for improving their products. There are also collaboration networks between startups and transport providers that are developing new transportation technology to share and then monetize data by creating new transportation services that will provide much higher value for customers.

New car models, such as so-called connected cars have different apps that provide much better driving experience. One of them is Apple’s CarPlay iOS in the Car, which connects iPhones and car stereo and also provides a sophisticated mapping. Also, with smartphones, you are able to check your fuel level, while a special car feature is emergency call in the case of car accident. Novelty is also a self-driving truck. Although this technology is still emerging, its potentials are really impressive. We will see the full effects of it for just five-to-ten years.

There are also new transportation services like shared mobility. You don’t need to drive your car when you go to work, you can share it with others. By carsharing and ridesharing, not only that you cut your cost, but also reduce pollution. Fewer cars – less pollution. You can also use drivers with their vehicles and pay them by the mobile apps that provide transportation network companies, such as Uber or Lyft. There are also shared autonomous vehicles, with no driver that you call with your smartphone to pick you up and drive you wherever you want. Imagine that! This solution will save your costs, but your time as well. While they drive you, you can work, read, or surf the Internet. In addition, connected vehicle technology will allow simple communication between vehicles (V2V) and with the infrastructure of roadside (V2I). Yet, that is not all. There are also new trends in mass transit, such as mobile ticketing, off-peak demand, bus rapid transit, high-speed rail, and others. With your smartphone, you can do all related to your transit – select a destination, pay drive, and show your virtual ticket, while in the smart cities you will get all information that you need for transport in real-time.

Indeed impressive. For a couple of years, with new transportation technology, we will have a totally new transport experience – much cheaper and more convenient. Who knows what would be the next. A few years ago, we looked these inventions only in moves and now they are here, in front of us, made for us. Let’s enjoy them!
